Having a decades-long marriage come to an end is something that is difficult. All the time the couple has spent to together likely holds many good memories. In some cases, those good memories aren’t enough to keep the marriage together. When the problems outweigh the fond memories, a divorce might be the best option for everyone involved.

For Cuba Gooding Jr., an April 22 document filed by his estranged wife seeks to bring their 20-year marriage to an end. The two met when they were teenagers. He married his high school sweetheart in 2004.

Gooding hasn’t released a comment on the divorce, but in August of last year he expressed his love on ‘The View.’ He said that she was a “wonderful lady” who could run the house in his absence.

The divorce petition cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. His estranged wife asked for joint custody of the couple’s three children. The children are 8, 17, and 19.

It is hard to determine how Gooding is dealing with the divorce since he has yet to release a statement. In this case, his wife has asked for joint custody of their children, which might mean that she is putting their interests first.

Anyone who is going through a divorce has to decide how to proceed with the divorce. Working through the child custody issues, property division and other factors can prove to be a challenge. Understanding your rights under Florida law might give you an idea about how to handle all the aspects of the divorce.
